Marcos Jr. Desperate Move Using Politics to Silence Duterte and Secure His Power and Dynasty – Opinyon

The Battle Beyond Justice

The recent political landscape in the Philippines exposes a harsh reality—this is not about justice but pure political maneuvering. President Bongbong Marcos’ senatorial slate suffered humiliating defeats, signaling a weakening grip on power. Meanwhile, former President Rodrigo Duterte remains a dominant figure, loved by millions, and seen as the strongest political rival Marcos faces today.

With the looming ICC case against Duterte, it’s impossible to ignore the deeper political agenda at play. The attempt to prosecute him isn’t just about seeking justice—it’s about eliminating him from the equation. Marcos and his allies know that as long as Duterte holds influence, he threatens their political dynasty. By removing him from the scene, they pave the way for their own continuity, ensuring that the next Marcos heir takes over.

A Popular Leader vs. A Fading Dynasty

Despite relentless attacks, Duterte’s popularity remains unshaken. His strongman leadership, no-nonsense policies, and connection with the masses continue to define his presence in Philippine politics. Wherever he goes, massive crowds welcome him—a clear indication that the people have not abandoned him.

This is what threatens Marcos the most. Unlike Duterte, whose influence is built on genuine public support, Marcos struggles to solidify his base. The recent electoral losses of his allies reflect this vulnerability. And so, instead of competing fairly, the strategy shifts to using international bodies and legal cases to discredit and possibly remove Duterte altogether.

Weaponizing the ICC for Political Gain

It is undeniable that the ICC investigation resurfaced at a convenient time—just as political tension between the Marcos and Duterte camps intensified. The case is being used as a tool to neutralize Duterte, ensuring that he cannot interfere with the future plans of the Marcos political dynasty. If successful, it could sideline Duterte’s influence before the next elections, leaving Marcos with a clearer path to securing power for his successors.

This isn’t about justice. If it were, why isn’t Marcos held accountable for the injustices of his own family’s past? Why does the ICC’s interest conveniently align with the political ambitions of the current administration? These questions expose the hypocrisy behind the case against Duterte.

Palace Press Officer Undersecretary Claire Castro confirmed that the Office of the President paid for the private jet that transported former President Rodrigo Duterte to The Hague, Netherlands.

According to Atty. Claire Castro, this was part of the Philippine government’s full cooperation in executing the arrest. However, many question why Marcos went beyond merely following ICC orders, considering that the ICC has no jurisdiction over the Philippines. Without the Philippine government’s cooperation, it would have been difficult for the ICC to arrest Duterte—just as it has been unable to act on its cases against Russian President Vladimir Putin and Israeli leaders.

Atty. Reserva pointed out the inconsistency, stating, “We fight for our fellow Filipinos abroad to protect them when they face criminal charges. Yet in the case of FPRRD, he has not even been convicted in our country, and we are surrendering him just like that?”

The Political Motives Behind Duterte’s Arrest

mm

Published

on

The recent arrest of former President Rodrigo Duterte, under the cooperation of the Philippine government with the International Criminal Court (ICC) and Interpol, has sparked controversy. While the arrest was portrayed as an act of justice, there are several reasons to believe that this is more about politics than legality. Here are five key points to consider regarding the circumstances of his arrest.

1️⃣ Interpol Has No Power to Enforce Arrests

Fact: Interpol is not a law enforcement agency.
While Interpol can issue notices, it does not have the authority to arrest individuals. Interpol’s role is purely advisory, providing information and issuing alerts to law enforcement agencies across countries. It is up to the individual governments to decide whether or not to act on these notices. The Philippine government’s decision to comply with the arrest request was a political move, not a legal obligation.

2️⃣ The ICC Has No Jurisdiction Over the Philippines

Fact: The Philippines withdrew from the ICC in 2019.
In 2019, the Philippines officially withdrew from the International Criminal Court, meaning that the country is under no legal obligation to recognize or comply with ICC warrants. Duterte’s arrest was not a requirement but a choice made by the current administration. This decision was not based on international law but rather on political motives.

3️⃣ Why Was the ICC Warrant Executed “Hours Before Duterte’s Arrival”?

Fact: The timing raises questions.
If this arrest was truly about seeking justice, why was the ICC warrant issued just hours before Duterte’s arrival and executed so swiftly? In a system that values due process, there should have been a thorough legal review before such drastic measures were taken. The suspicious timing suggests that this may have been a planned political attack rather than a pursuit of justice.

4️⃣ Calling Him “Mr. Duterte” is Pure Disrespect

Fact: Titles matter in a democratic society.
Regardless of one’s political views, former presidents are entitled to be addressed with the respect their office commands. Referring to Duterte as simply “Mr. Duterte” is an intentional act of disrespect. It undermines the dignity of the office he held and exposes the current administration’s personal bias against him. Former leaders should be addressed by their titles as a matter of respect for the office, regardless of their political standing.

5️⃣ Why Comply with Foreign Requests but Ignore Real National Issues?

Fact: Selective obedience is troubling.
The Philippine government quickly complied with the ICC’s request, yet it remains silent on more pressing national issues, such as corruption, smuggling, and local crime. The government’s selective obedience raises a critical question: why is the administration so quick to act on foreign requests, but so slow to tackle real, local issues that affect the daily lives of Filipinos? This selective action only deepens the suspicion that this arrest is politically motivated, not driven by justice.

🚨 This Isn’t About Justice—It’s About Politics

The arrest of former President Duterte appears to be more about political maneuvering than a genuine pursuit of justice. The Philippine government chose to comply with foreign requests while turning a blind eye to local issues that need immediate attention. Duterte’s arrest was a decision made by the current administration, and the people of the Philippines need to question the motivations behind it.

👉 Filipinos Should Ask: Who Really Benefits from Duterte’s Arrest?

The true beneficiaries of this arrest are unclear, but one thing is certain—it’s definitely not the people Duterte fought to protect. Filipinos deserve to understand the political dynamics at play and the true motivations behind this high-profile arrest.

Conclusion:
The arrest of Duterte, under the guise of seeking justice, appears to be driven by political interests rather than legal necessity. Filipinos must look beyond the headlines and ask the hard questions: Why was this arrest so rushed? Why is the government prioritizing foreign directives over its own pressing issues? The answers may reveal a larger political agenda at play.

Politically, diplomatically, economically, everything is good. Ngayon very evident naman talaga na under Bongbong Marcos, ang sitwasyon ng Pilipinas sa China is not good.

So kung ang political and diplomatic tension will not go down, ang mga mangingisda natin ay mahihirapan talagang makapangisda sa Scarborough Shoal.
